Alumna La’Kelsha Butler (Scotlandville ’17, Northshore Tech ’19) is preparing for classroom excellence as a STAR Teacher Researcher. The competitive program aims to uphold high standards in STEM education nationwide by providing hands-on research and professional development opportunities to aspiring K–12 STEM teachers. A full-time elementary education student at Southern, LaKelsha partnered with Dr. Jodi Morton to set up a summer lab in the Ag Center analyzing the effects of fermented feed on broiler chicks. In February, LaKelsha and Dr. Morton will present their research at the Western Regional Noyce Network Conference in San Diego.
