College Fellow Tanielma Costa (BRMHS ’20, LSU ’25) stood tall at the 2022 New Orleans Film Festival to rep her role in the award-winning documentary “Hollow Tree.” Tanielma, who immigrated with her family to the U.S. from Angola, is one of three Southeast Louisiana girls chosen by director Kira Akerman to tell their stories of coming of age during the climate crisis. Facing a sinking homeland and decades of social, economic, and environmental tensions, Tanielma asks the question of her generation: “Why are we accepting this?” At the festival, “Hollow Tree” received the Best Louisiana Feature Award.
