Overview

The Director of Operations (DO) is responsible for ensuring that BRYC’s physical infrastructure is prepared to support the delivery of world-class programs and support services. The DO is responsible for overseeing the execution of all operational functions when BRYC’s primary operations (i.e., programs) are in service (4:30–7:30pm). The DO will be held to the director-level expectations outlined in the Winning Habits.

Duties

Site Readiness

  • Manage the preparation of all program sites (there are three in 2024–2025 school year) before and after each program night, in collaboration with part-time operations associates assigned to each location, on a weekly basis.
  • Train part-time operations associates, ensuring they understand safety protocols, equipment operation, set-up procedures, and customer service expectations.
  • Manage part-time operations associates, providing coaching and corrective feedback to ensure outstanding customer service, strong overall performance, and continual growth. If associates aren’t available, function as the primary person to greet and close.
  • Responsible for the opening and closing of nightly BRYC programs (i.e., ensuring everything is ready for the start of programs and that the building is secure)
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure all equipment and materials are working and meet safety standards.
  • Oversee inventory management and procurement of necessary supplies and resources, including janitorial items, technology, and food, and delegate tasks as needed to part-time operations associates.

Facilities Maintenance

  • Implement a preventative maintenance plan for all program sites, including buildings, equipment, and technology (projectors, computers, etc.).
  • Coordinate repairs and troubleshooting for any facilities or equipment issues.
  • Manage budget allocations for facilities maintenance and procure any essential new equipment.
  • Ensure there’s safety at all times across all campuses.
  • Oversee all facilities contracts with external vendors (e.g., cleaning services, pest control, HVAC, general contractors) and ensure adherence to service agreements, including working with landlords and external partners (e.g., Dow).
  • Be responsible for all facilities-related procurement, including negotiating contracts with vendors and managing the purchasing process.

Transportation

  • Oversee the safe and reliable transportation of Fellows to and from program sites.
  • Maintain the upkeep and schedule routine maintenance for BRYC-owned vehicles.
  • Oversee the procurement of any new vehicles, considering factors like budget, capacity, and environmental impact.
  • Manage the hiring, training, supervision, and performance of BRYC drivers.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with external transportation vendors.
  • Design and optimize transportation routes, collaborating with schools and districts to ensure efficient pick-up and drop-off of Fellows.
  • Analyze transportation data and identify opportunities to optimize routes and maximize vehicle utilization.
  • Identify and implement new transportation solutions for program expansion.

School Partnerships

  • Create and maintain a strategic blueprint for BRYC location expansion related activities. This blueprint will contain information related to necessary logistical and resource needs for site expansion.
  • Actively engage with the support of the Executive Director during the initial discussions and planning phase for potential site expansion.
  • Ensure necessary follow-up throughout the site expansion process and track implementation goals to be reported to the leadership team.
  • Complete post-mortem assessments of any expansion or partnership activities and provide recommendations for future improvement. 

Strategic Operations

  • Aid BRYC leadership in the development and implementation of organizational strategy.
  • Align operational activities with strategic goals as laid forth by BRYC leadership.
  • Identify and evaluate growth opportunities with regard to operational areas of oversight.
  • Oversee performance metrics and evaluate areas for improvement within the organization.
  • Evaluate areas for cross-functional projects and initiatives to ensure efficient operation across areas of oversight. 
  • Collaborate with BRYC leadership on strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets.
  • Identify potential areas of risk and develop risk management and mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s minimum
  • Ideal: experience with facilities management and/or school or nonprofit operations
