Overview

The learning manager (LM) is an uncommonly hardworking, resourceful individual who’s passionate about helping BRYC’s 8-11th-grade Fellows transition smoothly from middle to high school and prepare for success on the ACT. Strong candidates understand the unique importance of starting high school strong and have experience helping students navigate this pivotal period. Above all, the LM is the ultimate advocate, devoted to disrupting inequity by providing world-class mentorship to Baton Rouge’s historically underserved youth.

Duties

  • Plan & facilitate electric programs
Three evenings per week, from 4:30-7:30pm, the LM will use a BRYC-developed curriculum to teach Fellows self-regulated learning (SRL) and socioemotional learning (SEL) skills, then guide Fellows in applying these skills to their homework alongside designated mentors. LMs should also be prepared to teach ACT programs to 11th-grade Fellows with support from BRYC’s director of learning.
  • Provide robust support outside of program
The LM will be responsible for managing a cohort of ~60 Fellows. They will identify and respond effectively to Fellows’ academic and socioemotional needs, and communicate proactively with guardians, learning mentors, and BRYC team members.
  • Build strong Fellow relationships and culture
The LM will develop trusting, equitable relationships with Fellows, learning mentors, and Guardians, and foster a community in which there is a shared sense of pride and purpose around the SRL/SEL process and BRYC experience as a whole.
  • Lead “Find Your Thing” initiatives
The LM is relentless and uncommonly resourceful in finding and helping Fellows pursue strong-fit outside-of-class opportunities that support their long-term goals and interests.
