Overview

The Music Production Coordinator (MPC) is an uncommonly creative, skilled individual who’s passionate about using music production to build confidence, leadership, and collaboration among BRYC’s Fellows. They are always connecting Fellows to the larger BRYC Community. 

Strong candidates understand the unique power of creative expression in youth development and have experience helping students discover their voice and potential through music. Above all, the coordinator is the ultimate advocate, devoted to disrupting inequity by providing world-class mentorship to Baton Rouge’s historically underserved youth through BRYC’s Digital Production Studio.

Duties

Plan & facilitate electric programs

  • Design and lead engaging music production programming with measurable goals and outcomes. Facilitate after-school workshops and drop-in sessions focused on Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), beat-making, songwriting, and vocal recording.
  • Foster a fun, safe, and inclusive studio environment for all Fellows, especially those with no prior music experience.

Provide robust support outside of program

  • Collaborate with BRYC staff to integrate music programming into BRYC’s academic, leadership, and wellness work. Identify and mentor a small group of advanced Fellows to serve as studio “All Stars” (i.e., leaders and peer mentors).
  • Organize periodic showcases and listening sessions to celebrate youth creativity and progress. Engage with parents/guardians and participate in BRYC-wide community events.

Build strong relationships and culture

  • Supervise youth behavior and uphold a culture of respect, responsibility, and personal growth. 
  • Create and uphold an inclusive and affirming space for Fellows of all identities and abilities.
  • Coordinate and support volunteers or visiting artists to enhance programming. 
  • Assist with basic studio tech maintenance and keep the space organized, safe, and welcoming.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school degree or equivalent
  • Music Production: 2 yrs minimum working with DAWs and music production tools
  • Ideal: Experience with youth in educational or after-school settings; mentorship background is a plus

Skills & Qualities

  • Strong fit with BRYC’s culture, as defined by our Trust Statements and Culture Code
  • Advanced knowledge of music production tools and techniques, including DAWs (Logic, Pro Tools, FL Studio, etc.), controllers (MPKs, MPCs), audio interfaces, microphones, and song structure
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage teens from a wide range of cultural backgrounds
  • Highly organized, flexible, and comfortable working independently in a busy nonprofit setting
  • Familiarity with music theory, songwriting, recording, and digital distribution is a plus
  • Strong intercultural awareness and dedication to youth development and empowerment
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain—BRYC will assist)
  • Access to reliable transportation

This role is funded in partnership with the Music & Youth Initiative, though BRYC is the direct employer. The Coordinator will collaborate with Music & Youth staff for occasional training and program support but will be fully embedded in BRYC’s youth development work.
