The Joe Burrow Foundation awarded BRYC an inaugural “Do Good” grant for college transition programming. Do Good grants support initiatives centered on food insecurity and mental health. The latter aligns with BRYC’s ongoing work to instill in Fellows’ a sense of self-worth that promotes self-advocacy. Selected from 170 submissions, BRYC’s application outlined how the transition curriculum, “College 101,” addresses non-academic challenges low-income students of color may face on campus; namely, advocating for resources and managing accompanying mental health issues like anxiety and depression. With the Foundation’s generous contribution, BRYC will present expanded College 101 programming to its 102 Senior Fellows this spring.
