A night to remember: Surrounded by family and friends including BRYC CEO Lucas Spielfogel, Will Loyd celebrated a stellar basketball career — and a romantic new chapter.
Long before the November 6 Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Will was a star on his hometown team, MPH’s Chargers. He began his collegiate career at Spring Hill College, where he quickly emerged as a reliable scoring and rebounding presence. After two productive seasons, he transferred to XULU, becoming a standout performer in the NAIA. During senior year, he averaged more than 16 points and seven rebounds per game, earning recognition for his efficiency, interior scoring, and leadership on both ends of the floor.
Will then launched his professional journey overseas, first competing in Finland’s top division with Salon Vilpas before continuing his career in Europe. He went on to play in Portugal’s Liga Betclic, where he served as a steady contributor for Vitória/Alves Guimarães, averaging nearly 10 points and six rebounds per game. Known for his strong frame, high motor, and ability to impact the game around the rim, Will established himself as a versatile forward capable of adapting to multiple systems and roles. Earlier this fall, Will announced his retirement with a heartfelt message on Instagram.
At the induction ceremony, Will was celebrated for becoming the first Gold Rush player in 29 seasons to reach 500 points and 250 rebounds, and for leading the XULA men to their first conference tournament championship since 1996. That season he was XULA’s Male Athlete of the Year and a second-team All-American in NAIA Division I. Will is a nephew of 2022 inductee Kenny Loyd; Kenny and brothers Khris (Will’s father) and Kraig all played basketball for the Gold Rush.
Around BRYC, Will is also known as a Legacy Fellow — his younger sister Andrea graduated in 2018 and now works for Dow in Michigan as an accountant.
