This fall, College Fellow Kenya Carney (Liberty ’20, Centre ’24) will “study away” in Washington, D.C. The program combines coursework at partner school Butler University with a full-time internship. Kenya, who plans to pursue a career in social work, hopes to intern with a nonprofit offering mental health services. She’s interested in learning American Sign Language to serve deaf clients and working with marginalized populations that may experience stigmas around mental healthcare. Initially unsure if studying away was right for her, she’s now looking forward to exploring the city and taking a significant step forward in her professional journey.
