In early March 2020, a few then-sophomore Fellows already had their bags packed for a Tennessee college tour with a planned departure date of March 13 when they got devastating news: the trip was cancelled, school would be virtual for the foreseeable future, and Baton Rouge was going into lockdown.
The next two-plus years would be rife with challenges, and those sophomore Fellows graduated last spring without ever going on their trip. But in a bittersweet return to normalcy, the Class of 2023 recently revived the tradition with a fall break tour of schools in Atlanta and the surrounding region. From Oct. 10-14, they visited University of Georgia, Oxford College of Emory, Emory University, Georgia Tech University, Georgia State University, and University of Alabama.
College Counseling Manager Jakia Steele – BRYC’s newest team member – took charge of the planning and preparation. “The Atlanta college tour was a great opportunity for Senior Fellows to not only learn about different colleges in the area, but also build community as a class. It was great to see them really get to know each other, and I was happy to know they had a fun time on the trip.”
