Alumna CPT Shandricka (Ericka) Jackson (William & Mary ’24) surprised BRYC’s Wednesday Fellows during a recent family visit to Baton Rouge. Ericka graduated from Glen Oaks in 2010 and — despite not receiving “any acceptance letters” — eventually earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from LSU. Today, she is an MBA and highly accomplished logistics officer, but she spoke candidly with Fellows about her challenges taking the ACT, experiences in community college, and decision to join the Army to fund her education — a decision that ultimately led to a prestigious Major General James Wright Fellowship at William & Mary. “Initially, I didn’t know what my future would look like,” Ericka shared. “Coming to BRYC really changed that for me.”

Connecting current Fellows with Alumni — through mentorship, career interests, geographic location, etc. — is one of BRYC’s key strategies for extending support well beyond our campuses. If you are a BRYC Alumni with capacity to share your time, please contact Ms. Catherine at [email protected].
